May 23, the Materia Inspiration Centre Amsterdam officially opened. Over 200 architects, designers, manufacturers and other ‘Material-lovers’ were the first to see the 1.400 m2 of the centre filled with materials, products, special presentations and a library. Furthermore, there are conference and meeting rooms and flexible workspaces.

Ann Maes, designer, owner of AMD Abitare and international critical networker, opened the centre by touching an interactive structured textile, designed by artist Daan Roosegaarde. On touching the textile, it ‘opened up’, reacting to the body heat.

The Materia Inspiration Centre Amsterdam is open from mo-fri 10.00-16.00. Access is free for everyone who wants to be inspired or is looking for a specific material. The centre is located in Amsterdam in the famous IJburg district, at the foot of the bridge by Nicholas Grimshaw.
