The exhibition ‘Materia goes 3D Printing’ was succesfully opened on 8 September 2011. Circa 90 visitors joined the opening at the Materia Inspiration Centre Amsterdam, where the exhibition on Rapid Manufacturing will run until 27 January 2012.

'Materia goes 3D Printing' focuses on several techniques of Rapid Manufacturing that are in use now. The exhibition explains six of the main techniques through images, films, texts and a lot of objects. What 3D printing means for architecure was explained by Holger Strauss in his very instructive and humourous opening lecture. Special lecture days will be part of the exhibition programme.

Lecture Days
In addition to the exhibition Materia organises two lecture days on 19 October and 24 November 2011. Speakers like Ulrich Knaack (co- author of the book ‘Rapids’), Michiel Dekkers (managing director Freedom of Creation), Frank Tjepkema (designer), Enrico Dini (D-Shape), and others will present their perspective on design, technology and development. For more information about the programme of these lecture days, please visit www.materia-ic.nl.

Materia’s 3D Jewellery Competition
Part of ‘Materia goes 3D printing’ is the international jewellery competition, initiated by Materia. The award winners will be announced during the lecture day on 24 November 2011.
Get inspired from the PolyJet (a 3D printing technology) from Objet (www.objet.com) and design jewellery to be made using 3D printing technology. Feel free to use the different colours, transparency options and flexible materials that the PolyJet Technology offers.

Winners are selected on the basis of innovation and aesthetics in their design and creative use of the 3D technology. Winning projects will be 3D printed and exhibited in the Materia Inspiration Centre. On top of this, winners are rewarded with prize money, ranging from Eu 500 for the best project, Eu 300 for 2nd place and Eu 100 for 3rd place.
