Co-creation Award 2014 open for entries

At Material Xperience 2014 we will be presenting the Co-creation Award for the project which makes best use of professional collaboration between a designer and a producer. The competition is now open for submissions.

The requirement for entries is simple: the project must have been completed in the last year, and it must be clear from the entry how a producer and a designer have joined forces to enhance the quality of the project. In this way, Materia encourages co-creation: pooling resources and specialities around a material-based project. The goal is to improve the quality of the built, designed and shaped environment, and materials are a great basis for this exploration.

During this second edition, one project will be awarded the prize for best co-creation. To celebrate this achievement, we will share the story with our global community. Besides an in-depth article on our website and newsletter, and mentions on our social media, we will also organise a professional video interview with the winning team.

Last year’s winner was the team of Holland Composites and Benthem Crouwel Architects. Their futuristic museum extension was widely publicised, and our expert jury chose it as a example of how a materials producer, in this case specialising in non-standard composite shapes, worked with a forward-thinking architect to create a unique collaborative solution to an architectural problem.

Other great examples are the Kukje gallery in Seoul by SO-IL architects and the 3D-printed house by DUS. Of course, the competition isn’t limited to buildings. All design projects are welcome, from shoes to skyscrapers, as long as the use of innovative materials and the collaboration between designer and producer are both clear.

Are you looking to enter, or do you have a suggestion for a project that should win? We would love to hear about all designs that you think have been significantly improved through co-creation. Please send examples and entries to: p.allin@materialdistrict.com. The deadline for submissions is Monday 13th January 2014.

The award will be presented during Material Xperience 2014, which will be held 22nd – 24th January on location at Ahoy in Rotterdam.
