Structural Skin

Structural Skin is a self-produced material made out of leftovers from the leather industry.

Leather is a beautiful material but also, unfortunately, generates considerable amounts of what is typically considered low quality waste. The reason for this is that experts consider only 13% of a hide to be top quality and only up to 43% as being good quality. The remainder of an animal hide is generally discarded. Jorge Penadés however sees value in these leftovers. After extensive experimentation, he has developed a new production method that transforms waste from leather factories into his Structural Skin innovation.

Structural Skin has been used in a series of furnishings for example and shows the visual qualities and material quality of leather in a completely new way that is totally different from the 2-dimension way we normally experience leather as a material.
