Wave Cabinet Breaks the Box

Artist Sebastian Errazuriz re-imagines the cabinet with this functional piece called Wave that opens up fluidly, like a fan. “Forget the we’re talking about furniture…see it as a way of breaking a box,” says Erruzuriz.

Rather than relying on traditional hinged doors, this cabinet is made up of 100 baltic birch slats. Each slat is connected to its neighbours, so moving one slat starts a wave of motion, creating an opening with a fan-like pattern.

Multiple openings in a variety of locations are possible and Wave can also be opened from a number of directions, allowing you to keep things on the top while opening up the front.

“I love the idea of creating beautiful furniture,” says Erruzuriz. “Nevertheless, I am much more interested in using the medium as an excuse to trigger people’s curiosity and create a connection with them.”
