Co-creation Award 2014

At the upcoming edition of Material Xperience, we will be celebrating one of the most important aspects of our mission. The co-creation award, which saw its first edition at this year’s show, will be held again to determine the best collaborative project in architecture.

Materia aims to connect creative professionals, particularly architects and manufacturers. We constantly ask ourselves what the design potential is when a great idea meets a great material. So last year, we created the Materia Co-creation Award. The award stimulates active partnerships in the broad world of design, between architects and producers.

The results were fascinating. Last year’s winners were the team of Holland Composites together with Benthem Crouwel Architects, with a carbon-fibre coated museum extension. The striking, shiny white public building in the heart of Amsterdam (NL) solves many design issues, has put the ‘Stedelijk’ Museum back on the international hot-list of must see museums. All this  was only possible because of the close collaboration between the designer and the producer.

This is the kind of project that we love. We’ll be publishing more examples of really inspiring examples in the coming weeks, to get everyone in the mood.

Do you have a great suggestion for the award, or are you working on a project that has been made significantly better through co-creation? We’d love to hear about it! Next year’s award will be presented during Material Xperience 2014, which will be 22nd – 24th January.

Details and registration will be online soon, so check back regularly on our Facebook  and Twitter to find out more. Submissions and suggestions can go to p.allin@materialdistrict.com. Thanks!
