Laura van de Wijdeven used a waste material from Forbo Flooring to create wall tiles. The tiles are made of 50% Forbo jute fibre and 50% gypsum plaster. Jute fibre is the only waste material in the production process of Forbo linoleum. By combining it with plaster, the fibres are transformed into very strong tiles with distinct patterns. The original properties of the plaster are changed by this addition, giving the waste material a second life and new durable purpose. By using this waste material, Forbo linoleum becomes a zero-waste product.

The Jute Tiles are completely handcrafted in The Netherlands and available in custom sizes. The tiles have a closed loop recycling system, this means that it is 100% endlessly recyclable. Next to wall tiling, Laura also works on bespoke products with this material. Jute and plaster are both naturally mould and mildew resistant, making it applicable for several interior spaces. An eco-friendly coating makes it water repellent but not completely waterproof. This material is an alternative for traditional wall tiling.
